Granny's gone and done it again

We have a big old mulberry tree. Have lived here 14 years and this is the first year it yielded enough that we got enough to enjoy. It was a cicada year too, so I think that's why I got berries - all the birds and squirrels were busy eating cicadas! The tree is impossible to climb so I only get what falls on the grass. They were delicious but not nearly enough to do anything with like jam or juice. We don't park under it so no harm, no foul.
You can use a wire basket on the end of a long bamboo fishing pole to gather them with instead of letting the birds steal from you. Bet you hens would love some of them too.

We don't have a problem with the mulberry leaves, they just blow around along with the leaves from all the oak, hickory and maple leaves we have around here. But a couple of years ago we had two does, each with her two fawns, that came here every day for over a week to munch on the mulberry leaves. Must have been a poor year for acorns. This year was a very good year for acorns - and hence a bad year for the hunters.

Nope, the branches are too high. This is a VERY old tree. It was old in the 60's when DH's parents bought the property. Or at least it was here then, so it is well over 65 years old now.
