I don't have enough experience to know. They seem lethargic and weak to me. I've been giving them jump start gel and I put a fan up for them. I might have to supplement bottles? I guess I need to weigh them so I'll know if they're gaining or not.

Do they get up to drink regularly, are they just sleeping a lot? They were born just yesterday? Yes, weighing them is a good idea. I've never used jump start gel. You can always take their temp too.
They're always sleeping when I go to see them, and breathing so fast it almost looks like shivering. They were born Tuesday afternoon, almost 48 hours old. My neighbor with goats recommended the jump start gel.

Our temp is 92, heat index is 102. They're in the barn with two big windows and a fan.

I can't check them every two hours right now because we have a HUGE group of kids and I've got 1-2 helpers, depending on the meal. Stretched pretty thin. The boy was laying by the door this morning, and an hour later he hadn't moved and the nanny was nudging him with her nose. He's less vigorous than the doeling. I went and put him at a teat and he drank a bit, then switched and drank a bit more. I also saw him pee for a surprising amount of time.

I know newborns tend to sleep a lot, and I can get a bit panicking about checking them myself. The jump start gel could help, and certainly won't hurt. I guess just check on him when you can, if he is peeing he must be drinking sometime. I've never dealt with that kind of heat when I've had goat kids, so I am not certain how they would act in it. What kind of bedding are they on?

I took that pic this morning. Went to check just now and it was dead. :/ Been a bad week for chicks.

Shucks Camp.

You seem to be having a lot of problems with chichs lately...huh?

I hope your luck turns around quick.

How are the twins?

They're on hay. I need to clean it out, hopefully tomorrow. The yard is sand and pine straw, but I'm afraid they'll lay in the sun and get sleepy, then die. I guess that's a weird thing to get worried about...

If you have a chance see how they are on solid ground, maybe they just don't feel steady enough on the hay? I've had it too deep before and the kids seemed instead on it, cleaned out and they were using their jumpsticks in no time. I would worry about them falling asleep in sun too, not weird (I hope)

Camp would it hurt them to maybe spray them with a little water to help cool them off?

mlm I think you may have something there about being unsteady on their feet in the hay! Camping have you led Mamma outside for a little walk on solid ground?

Tippy she's gone out a few times when the boys open the door (stinkers!) but the buckling didn't follow her. Only the doeling. The ramp is tricky for them. After farm chores tomorrow I'll let them all out.
