Great Deal on Clear Vinyl for Winterizing

You should check out FARM PLASTIC SUPPLY
I ordered and have used in the past:
String reinforced 4 year UV resistant 10 mil clear greenhouse plastic.
I bought a 24' X 10' piece
For me I only need 5' wide so I'll cut in two and have an extra for years down the road
I'll cover 5' of my 8' X 18' run on the south side and one end. The north side is made of boards and the coop is on the other end.
I'll have 1' of open wire at the top
And it will keep blowing snow out of the run
I'm always glad when spring is here and it comes off

Just ordered some clear vinyl for winterizing my run, and got it way cheaper than most places are selling for right now. On sale for $6.99/yd (less if you get the full 22yd roll). 54" wide, 30 gauge, which is thick enough to withstand some abuse. I've ordered this stuff before and it's very good quality. Actually clear and cleans well. I used it all winter last year and it cleaned up great in the spring with just water and will be usable again this winter (unlike any of the translucent tarps I ordered from amzn or the cheap clear shower curtains that had to be trashed). I added grommets and attached with zip ties, and not a single piece ripped, despite being subjected to a LOT of wind. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else is noodling on their winter plans already (and dreaming of cooler weather!).

Could you tell me more about the nature of the Blemishes? Is that the version you ordered? How "blemished" is it?

I really couldn't tell, so far anyway. There was a little bit of some black printing that had rubbed off on it on the first few inches, but beyond that, I have found nothing that I would consider a blemish. It's still crystal clear. I've only used about half the roll so far. It certainly was fine for use on a chicken coop.

How many yards did you buy and what was the shipping? If you recall?

I bought a whole 22 yd roll. Shipping was $43, but it was HEAVY. So I get why shipping was $$$. Still a good deal, even with the shipping cost.
Oh yeah, for sure. I am thinking of ordering now, for next year, just to have it, so I can work on the panels at my leisure. I know it's a bit over board, but that is how I roll...
I plan to make 2 foot wide panels from 2x2 pressure treated lumber, then attach the vinyl to the frames. Then I plan to make simple channels for these panels to set into and clip on.
2 foot wide is about perfect for 54" wide vinyl, I can get two panels from each section, and the should not be too heavy. Then I can store all these flat, off season, and I can remove panels as needed during nicer days in the winter months. Here in Indiana it's not uncommon to have bitter cold one week, then in the 50's the following. We can have an early spring in March, then get dumped on in early May.

This is pretty much what I did, except I used 1x2s, and painted them. I just screwed on some 6" scrap 1x2s onto the corners of the frame of each section of the run, loose enough that I could rotate them to release the vinyl panels when I wanted to take them out. We have the same type of weather in KS, so I too was needing something that I can take down on nice days (wind chill is in the teens right now, but forecasted mid 50s next week). Tarps and bungees worked OK last year, but I got tired of running out and fixing them when it was really windy. Good for you for getting a head start. That was my plan too, and the roll of vinyl sat in my garage for a while. Then it got cold earlier than normal this year, so I was scrambling last week to get it all done. Happy with how it turned out though!

I prefer to give myself plenty of time, I HATE last minute changes.
I went a head and used 4 mil visqueen vinyl... Not impressed. a few place ripped as I was putting it up. I am hoping I can just get through this winter.
I gave myself a year to plan the coop before we even bought the chickens and I really needed it... I'm always thinking about the next season's garden, while tending this year's crops.

I bought the same thing, 10 yards, 30 gauge, shipping was $28. Just opened the roll to cut some pieces today - didn't notice there is any blemish. (completely forgot that it's supposed to be with some defects since we purchased this in fall when it was on sale for $6.99/yard.)
