If I put my 2 week old chicks outside on the grass in a secure pen during the day do I have to give them grit?

Yes, to help break down the grass and bugs that they'll pick up and eat.

Hey.. just wondering do I have to put the chick grit in a separate feeder? And do I leave it there like there food? Thank you o my chicks are almost 4 weeks but I have two almost 3 week one

You can put it in a separate container or add a pinch of grit on their feed once or twice a week until they get older and are less liekly to gorge.

Me, late again to a thread. I usually try to search before starting a thread with a question.
We have raised 4 clutches and have never used grit. We had them outside from a few days old with mamma or without a mamma. The grass is sparse and I would put crumbles on the dirt/ground and they would peck away. Was it a fluke that we did not have any troubles? Or by pecking the ground, they were obtaining a natural type of grit? (this is what I am thinking)
We have 11 day old chicks that I will be taking outside starting tomorrow (I needed to borrow a larger cage today) and I have been giving them a "little" dirt for a couple of days. Should I purchase some chick grit for them?

If your soil has small rocks mixed in, they can get it from digging around in the dirt. Or some folks find their chickens digging through gravel for the same reason.
