My chicken is unable to walk or stand. She seemed completely fine yesterday except for the fact that she was laying on my lap loosely last night. I thought it was just due to the fact that she was tired and almost asleep, but it was different than how she normally lays when sleeping. She is not vaccinated and I fear she has marek’s and it could spread to my other chickens.

Weakness from dehydration and heat exhaustion, being kept from food and water by bullies, impacted or sour crop, egg binding, reproductive disorders such as internal laying and other, and injuries may cause her not being able to walk.

Can she move her feet and legs? Is she drinking water or eating food? How does her crop feel—empty, full, firm, or puffy? How do her poops look? I would give her water with electrolytes or try some gatorade or pedialyte.

She’s about a year old. Her poop is very watery. Her feathers are beginning to thin out and she won’t eat. She will barely open her eyes and won’t get up. And she shakes so much. I fear she has no time left. She’s very weak

Can you get some Poultry NutriDrench and give her a few drops? Mix some chickenfeed with a lot of water, and offer some to her. Cooked egg may get her to eat as well. Is her crop empty?

Yes I can try this. I believe she’s getting weak like this due to the heat. It’s very hot in California where I live and it’s been over 100 lately. I’m still unsure what to do. She’s eaten some watermelon today and drank a little water but i’m fearful for she seems to get weaker and weaker.

Until you get the nutridrench, you can mix a quart of water, a tsp of sugar, and a small pinch of salt to give her. Gatorade or pedialyte are good. If she takes the watermelon, that will get fluids into her as well. Even chickens I have had who were very sick will take some cooked egg chopped up. With temps that high, it may just be dehydration, at least I hope so.
