Are hamburgs likely to go broody. I have a bantam one and she is sitting on eggs, but I don't know if she's immature and will leave the nest. Anybody own hamburgs or have experience with their broodiness????

Hamburgs are usually listed as a non-broody breed. That generally means that very few of them go broody.

After a hen does go broody, I don't know if there is any difference between broody and non-broody breeds for whether she will be a GOOD broody. And unfortunately I have no personal experience with broody hamburgs.

I see that this it's been a week and a half since you asked the question, so it's probably a bit late to give her eggs and see what happens.

But if she is still sitting, you might see how long she continues, then in the future if she goes broody again you can use that information to decide whether to give her eggs.

Spangled Hamburgs do seem to go broody from time to time. The pencilled ones do not, in my experience.

Sometimes bantams will be more broody than their large fowl counterparts.

I'd give her a chance. Having an incubator for back up would be useful, but if you don't then there is a risk that she'll abandon the nest. You have to decide what's best for you in this situation.

She and her sister have been co sitting dilegently for the past week and I do have an incubator ready. The eggs they are sitting on however, are brahma eggs.....
