Hampbar Chickens...who else has them?🐥

I got a pair of these little darlings with my chocolate Orpington chicks last month from a local breeder. I had never heard of them before, but they were so pretty and the breeder said they would blend well with my flock (Americanas, Orpingtons, RIR, Australorp, Brahma). They really are sweethearts, right now around 15 weeks old and still learning the ropes...but it's really hard to find information about the breed other than their Canadian origin and autosexing cross w barred rock and New Hampshire. If anyone out there has any experience, please don't be shy!

it's really hard to find information about the breed other than their Canadian origin and autosexing cross w barred rock and New Hampshire.

Well.. I have Welbar.. which is Welsummer cross Barred Rock in the first generation. The cross is correct but first generation crosses will be sex linked not autosexing.. then bred back together again.. create the autosexing thing (or *something* to this effect to make them breed true). They seemed unpopular when I first got them.. but fun to see them and other similar ones gaining momentum! Welbar were better birds in MY experience than Bielefelder.. I bet Hampbar are nice as well! I do love seeing the orange-red barring.

Other similar breeds are the Wybar, Rhodebar, Brussbar, and more..

Hi, we are in East Alabama and love our Hampbar chickens. We also have Coronation Sussex & Crevecoeur Chickens too but I must say the Hampbar is my favorite breed. Healthy, friendly, gets along well with others, inquisitive, free range well but also tolerates being in a coop with run, and lays good X-large eggs.

Thank you for the response, and for sharing your pics...they are so beautiful! We really love our two girls, Penny and Peanut!

They are still a bit shy at 18 weeks (we got them at 12 weeks old), but they are so adorable and I love the little noise they make, sort of like baby duck sounds? They just started to squat and lay!

Hello, from south Arkansas. I know no one with Hampbar but am glad I made the purchase. I have had 10 for about two months and they are all very healthy.
This week I let them in the chicken run with the older chickens. They get along very well with my Lavender Orpingtons, Salmon Faverolles and Fiesty Cochins.They are also very gentle with new hatchlings.
