Hatching a Parrot egg?

Just out of curiosity, it is possible to hatch a parrot egg in an artificial incubator and raise it successfully? Has anybody tried this?

It is possible in theory if you could find somebody to sell you an egg (most breeders won't) and then IF it hatches it will be like having a new baby you will have to hand feed it at intervals, the intervals start out really close I think it is like every fifteen minutes but spread out as they get older. also there are special needs that parrots need when artificially incubated, one thing is the temperature of the food you feed them and its consistency. If it is too cold it will cause problems in the crop, and if it is too hot it will burn a hole in the crop. you would be better off getting one at a week or two old and hand feeding it then if you would want to do that or just look for a young hand fed bird that has been weened.

Many parrot breeders hatch by incubator but it is much easier to allow the parents to hatch the chicks. Usually the chicks are left with the parent for about 2 weeks and then we pull them and start hand feeding them. Day old chicks are extremely hard to take care of and have to be fed by a pipette every two hours or so. When we pull then at two weeks they still have to bed fed every 4 hours even through the night just like a human baby. Some breeders (but not many) will sell a two week old to experienced hand feeder only but this doesnt happen very often.

I love hand- feeding baby parrots.. the bond is just so amazing...

Can you use regular incubator..like for chicken eggs...

yes,it is, have done it many times, but it very labor intense, you have to feed them every two hours for the first week, then every four hours just like a human baby, if you have the breeder birds for the eggs that is, most of the ads selling parrot eggs are scams, had a friend fall for it one time, lost 500. and he raises the big birds. but it can and is done from the incubator on, last time i did it, was a double yellowhead parrot, named her bethana.

I raise parrots, it's much easier to let the parent birds do the feeding (and the hatching). I leave mine with the parents for several weekks before I take them to handfeed. they are still just as tame and not as much work as a day 1 baby. those are so easy to lose. I won't sell eggs and I'm very picky about selling unweaned babies (or weaned for that matter) as well.

sometimes, the parrots won't feed the chicks and you lose them unless you know how to handfeed, it is very labor intense but if you love the birds, its a joy to watch them grow , i've handfed everything from parakeets on up to the big birds, in fact, handfeeding two bourkes right now that the one was slowly dying due to momma feeding it whole seeds instead of the "milk", now its growing like it should and its going to be either a lutino or rubino bourke, needless to say, it won't be leaving my house lol

Have hatched many, in a roll-x and turn-x incubators. But rather let parents hatch them,then pull chicks at 10 days. They need the crop milk that first week.

yes deerman, i agree but sometimes you know you have to hatch and day one with a young first time hen and cock if you want the chicks, and believe me, i do.
