I like having my chickens freerange but ran into an issue with hawk attacks. I wanted my chickens protected from above whilst also allowing me to walk around their freerange area. A 50'x50' 2.4" square mesh poultry/garden net is cheap, only $30, but I needed a way to elevate it so I designed a support plate that fits on 3/4" EMT conduit pipe. You can buy a 10' pipe for ~$11.

I think this is a pretty cheap solution. I drove the conduit pipe about 6" into the ground. We had incredibly strong gusts of wind a few days ago that battered my house but the netting stayed up. Since the net is tied down fairly tightly, and the support system has spikes to catch the net, I think its unlikely to fail via extreme weather conditions. I have yet to have a hawk fly into it though but if that happens I'll provide an update.

I published the 3d models and instructions on sketchfab
