My 8 month old Buff Orpington has had an on off poopy backside for a couple weeks. I had cleaned her up and it seems to improve but a few days ago I realized it was poopy again. Her droppings under the roost had not seemed bad but I did find two loose ones this morning. Then tonight she dropped off the roost and when we checked on her she was breathing heavy mouth a little open. We brought her into the garage to a sick pen. Put food and electrolyte water in with her. She wouldn’t drink and doesn’t walk well. She’s fluffed up and tail dropped when she’s does get up. She laid an egg this morning and was free ranging and running around this afternoon. I don’t understand how she could go down so fast. I have no idea what to do. I do have Corid should I just give her that just in case? She doesn’t seem to be drinking. Not sure how I would get it into her. None of the other chickens seem off. Any help would be appreciated!

Ok I gave her one. I didn’t have that exact kind but I had a citracal which has calcium citrate and calcium carbonate. Is this sounding like a calcium issue? We did recently switch to growing feed with oyster shell available because we integrated some non laying 15 week pullets. I’ve worried they don’t seem to be using a lot of the shell. There was also a broken egg in the nest for the first time yesterday. Anything else I should be doing? Thank you!!

Her poops are not bloody that I have seen and I clean the coop and run daily. I’ve noticed a few loose ones the last day or so but also normal ones. Like I mentioned her poopy but is back. Comb normal color. She’s definitely lethargic and just laying down. Fluffed up and tail dropped down when standing but barely walking. She seemed absolutely fine this morning. She doesn’t look good :(

Can you feel her belly between her legs and kind of toward and brlow her vent and see how it feels, like if you can maybe feel an egg or anything in there?

Also check her crop tonight, see if it's full, and again in the morning to see if it's emptied overnight, before she has a chance to eat or drink anything. Describe how it feels if anything's in it, if doughy, hard, gritty, anything like that. Smell around her head and see if there is an odor to her breath. All this info will help the Educators determine what's wrong with her and how best to treat her.
