Help! Baby Quail food

[Wonder Quails]

I 'Might" have some quails chicks. However, I am not sure so I haven't bought
any food yet. Does anyone know what I should feed them for now? I heard they need high protien
food. Thanks!!!

Baby chicks don't have to eat or drink for the first 1-2 days after hatch. I've never raised quail before but I believe they eat regular chick starter. If it takes you a minute to get them food, scrambled egg works fine as a substitute.

They need 24% protein or higher, like Turkey Starter (30%), if you can't find a 24% gamebird feed. If 20% is all that you can find, it will do but it will limit their development. Quail chicks are not like chicken chicks, they need to have feed available to them at a minimum of 12 hours after hatching, or have it available when you transfer them to a brooder.

I have the most success with a 28% protein starter feed but also use a 30% turkey starter which is equally as good. Lower than 24% will limit their growth as Sean has said.
