I was down to two drakes and two hens, so in November, I ordered four new girls. In February, I moved the four new girls into the pen with the old ducks (in a large dog pen) so they could look and not touch. After a week or two, I started allowing them 1-2 hours of free time together every day, and it was going well, so after a few weeks of that, I started allowing them time together inside my big duck pen during the day. I kept the dog pen door open so the new girls would have a place to retreat - the boys rarely go in there.
After a couple of weeks of that, one of the new girls, Annabelle, injured her leg. I am not 100% sure how it happened or if it happened in or outside the pen, but I ended up putting the new girls back in the dog pen for a few weeks so Annabelle could heal and rest. They still got free time together, but I managed to keep the drakes off of her during that time because I sit with them when they're out.
She's all healed up now, so I don't intervene as much with the drakes unless it gets super intense, but they're running her ragged during free time. They pay absolutely no attention to the other five girls. It's always just a battle for Annabelle. Yesterday, it got so bad that her neck was bleeding. Is there anything I can do to stop this? I know drakes are pretty ravenous, but I've never seen anything like it with just this one duck. I have no idea why they have no interest in the others. To make it worse, she's got the sweetest little personality.
