I noticed that my hen Sofia was snapping her beak open and close so I watched her and saw that she was doing after she drank water. To me it looks like something could be stuck in her throat I’m not sure. She has an spirits for food and water. She doesn’t do it when she’s eating though, and when there’s no food she’s doing everything she can to get to the water. She’s acting normal, her crop squishy like it already emptied and is barley full, but he breath doesn’t smell particularly bad to me and she’s acting normal otherwise so I don’t think it’s sour crop? Any ideas on what it is or how I can fix it. I’ve put her to bed in a kennel so she can have water and food undisturbed. She doesn’t seem to be dying so I haven’t really done much except a quick check over to get information and putting her in a kennel because I don’t know what to do.

Have you examined inside the beak to see if something is stuck?

This morning she was doing the thing while eating too. I’ll be able to look in her throat more after school and I have a tube feeder I can use if she stops eating or potentially to get something unlodge in her throat?

How is she doing now?

Were you able to have someone help you examine her?
I have, I didn’t see anything except some corn bits lol. I used the tube feeder, and she seemed better she was eating without shaking her head but I think she shook it once so I’m planning to she how she is in the morning otherwise her behavior is still the same energy wise she’s just fine as long as she’s not eating or drinking

Are you sure it was corn? Can you take a look again to see if she may have Canker?

Is her crop emptying overnight?

Example of what Canker may look like.

There was definitely corn on her tongue but there was something deeper that could have been a canker yes her crop is emptying overnight. She’s doing better right now she’s not head shaking while eating food but I’m not sure about while she’s drinking. Is a canker something I should treat or leave alone?

IF she does have Canker, you'd want to treat with Metronidazole.

It would be a good idea to reexamine the inside of her beak to be sure that she does have Canker.
Can you have someone help you, perhaps hold her while you look inside beak with a light?

That’s how I had

someone help me last time I’m sure I can do it again later today, the chicken has started shaking her head when she’s eating again
