Yes that's crazy. Don't do it. Shells are porous, remember.

You could try rubbing them with a lightly moistened sponge to remove some of the bloom.

What day are they on now?
Thank you. I'm crazy when I'm desperate. I need my friends to tell me the truth. But the physicist in me knows that it will draw out fluid through osmosis, so it shouldn't be bi-directional...

And my sterilized eggs (see page 1 of this thread) are doing no better than the unwashed. :hit

EDIT: Sorry--we're on Day 18 right now. Should I turn off the turner? I'm not going into lockdown until I get a pip.

Are they still upright in the turner? I would definitely turn it off, take it out, and lay them down, in proper position (lowest side of the dip in the air cell upward) and wait for time to crank up the humidity. :fl

Okay. Tonight, as soon as I get my little chicks to bed. THANK YOU! You're an awesome chicken friend!

Actually I don't know. MAYBE up the humidity a little when you get an external pip but otherwise I'd personally just leave it as low as possible because the eggs still have so much moisture inside, but just do what you think is best

Remember they've had 14 days of high humidity that they should have only had for 3 days in lockdown - that plus the aircell photos makes me think leave it as low as possible, it will naturally spike a little when you get an external pip anyway

I live in Florida and with all of the rain we've had this past month (over a foot for us) the humidity is higher than I want it in my incubator. Tuesday I'm putting the last tray of eggs in it for this year. That will make around 300 eggs. I'll candle when I put them in the hatchers. I did look at a couple of eggs and they look good and the embryos seem to be developing nicely. My first tray of eggs should hatch around June 19th. I have tried everything suggested. Right now I have some damp-rid in the empty water tray. There is some water in the bottom of the tub but the humidity at it's lowest was around 45%. I want it around 30%. I ordered some things online to try and they should arrive in a couple of days.

The 3 days at the end are more important while they are hatching so they don't stick while zipping.

But yes, it is possible for them to hatch without increasing the humidity, it happens plenty, usually by accident, folks forget to add water.
