I brought this gal home a few days ago. She seemed fine other than missing a few feathers around the left eye. Yesterday, I noticed her eye bubbling (not foaming). I flushed it with saline. I isolated her. When I checked her this morning she had a white purulent discharge. Her third eyelid is quite prominent. She has been acting normal otherwise, still eating and drinking. Any ideas? Not sure if she had an injury prior to coming to us or of this is something more serious. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to BYC. Bubbles or foam, or milky discharge in an eye can be a sign of something being in the eye, a peck wound, or a respiratory sinus disease such as MG. Flush the eye twice a day with saline, and apply Terramycin or Neosporin ointment twice a day to the eye. If she has sneezing or nasal discharge, or swallowing a lot of mucus or head shaking, that would be more symptoms of MG. Personally, I would return her. But Tylosin or Denagard can be used to treat symptoms of MG, but the disease would make her a carrier. Sometimes the stress of rehoming can bring about symptoms.

She’s not sneezing or breathing weird or having other discharge. I do have a pekin that sneezes like crazy (seriously it’s a lot) but she hasn’t really been around her. Thanks for the tips. I’m trying to get in contact with the girl I got her from.

So I did check with the person I got her from, no one else in the flock has every shown symptoms. They also sold other silkies she had been around and none have reported a similar issue at this point. She is still not showing any other symptoms. She seemed a little depressed but other than that is running around her pen and eating and drinking.
