Hi all,
My girl recently got a very swollen leg. At first I thought it may have been Bumblefoot, but after soaking her in Epson salts and investigating, I could see that there was no scab or sore on her foot. Someone suggested that it may be scaly leg mites, but her leg doesn’t match any of the pictures I’ve seen on Google either… she seems to be walking on it fine but it is very very swollen. Any ideas?

How does her leg look farther up into the feathers near the hip? Is there anything around her leg, such as a hair or string tie? Have you had her long? The skin looks red near the lower leg. There looks to be a red sore near the rear claw in the 3rd picture. Does the leg feel hot? I really don’t know what that is, but I would suspect an injury or infection. Is she limping or holding the leg up?

Hello, there’s nothing around her hip or leg further up :/ we’ve had her about a yeah and a half now. No sores on her foot, just very red and hot to touch. No limping and she’s using her foot fine. It just looks very infected and I can’t seem to figure out what it is…

I would try to see a vet if possible. The swelling may be caused by infection or injury, but cancer could also be a problem. I can’t understand why she is not limping since it looks painful. Do you have access to any antibiotics to try, or have you done that already?

Any update on your Hen? I have one a similar issue. Vet did some tests and it came back bacterial but the antibiotics did not really help even after two rounds. We have her isolated and are managing it with epsom salt soaks but only getting slight improvement, and I think the isolation is starting to get to her, but when we put her back with the rest of the flock the swelling came right back.
