Hi everybody, we have a year old ham that I found with a very swollen eye and one side side. The other eye seems to be fine.

Posting pics of healthy side and swollen one

How can I help her heal? Is her eye gone? What could be happening?

I isolated her for now… i love my birds and animals but have no vet available or know how to help.

Does anyone know what is happening with her?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions…

Is she showing any other symptoms? How long has her eye been like this? Does her breathing sound normal or raspy?
Thank you so much for your reply, she has been like that for about 24 hours. She is not showing other symptoms other than being very anxious :(

Her breathing sounds good.

I had her in little cage overnight in the garage and there was no improvement:(

any ideas? I think it was a rooster that injured her. Or is it some other infection?

Okay. If she had breathing problems and runny nose than I would say mycoplasma, but I don't think that's what it is. I would suggest very gently rubbing her eye with a warm washcloth to clean off the crustiness. Then I would wash it with pure saline (like for contact lenses) and Vetericyn animal eye drops. Also, make sure she drinks lots of water. Force her to drink, if you have to, by dipping her beak in the water. Don't let her get dehydrated. It would be great if she would eat, too.

Thank you so much for ideas… she ate a lot this morning and seems to be sipping water.

She doesnt let me touch that area. I wonder if eye is gone and I am making her struggle by trying to touch it?

Should i keep her in darker place or outside in shade is ok?

Thank you so much all for trying to help…

Okay. If you have a dog crate, I would put her in it with towels and puppy potty pads in the basement or garage. It should be dark and warm, but not hot. That eye really should be cleaned, but you don't want to stress her out.

Also, you could use a Q-tip to apply the Veticeryn, but be careful not to poke her.
Thank you so much for helping us… I will do everything that you mentioned. Will do my beat to gently clean her eye. I think she wants to lay an egg so I will let her be in the dark spot in the crate for now… I will update this evening on how she is doing.

Okay, if she lays an egg that's good.
