Hen pecked and made my child bleed

I’m glad to hear you’re giving her a second chance. One of my hens will peck my feet only when I wear a certain pair of coop boots- she will also pecks just as hard on my freckles (ok- age spots) on my hands. I assume it is her lack of awareness in pecking strength- she also pecks and beaks feed everywhere.

@aart gave excellent advice on how to peck back. I wouldn’t recommend you teach your daughter how to do that at 5 yrs old- she too may not know strength limits. You as the adult can teach the hen whenever your daughter and you are near enough to the hen AND the hen is acting up.
Ok yeah I do agree with you they don’t know how hard they peck

It takes time and practice for chicks and juveniles to learn how to use their beak much like it does human children learing how to use their hands.
If one watches chicks and juveniles feeding you will notice that they miss a lot of what they peck at, or don't manage to pick the object up.
Adult chickens know exactly how hard they peck. It's the type of peck and the circumstances in which it happened.

The reaction of your child is not something I would find acceptable.

My chickens peck and jump on me all the time. For me, not because of aggression, but because of food! I was trying to massage one of my hens crops once, and one of my RIRs came up and pecked on me to get food. Maybe that hen just wanted her food?
