I hope I can find this post to update - I had trouble finding it this evening to update. We worked under and will continue to work under sterile conditions so I'm sure the final outcome will be optimal in the event I can't find this post to update. The hen is a rescue and is so happy in her new home and with the medical attention such as it is. If there's a problem you'll hear from me as I value your input greatly having had this experience. Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you and your new chickens, how wonderful for them to have a new home where people care. Keep up the good work, I know she's feeling better already!

I just got done dealing with bumblefoot and my only advice is DO NOT RETURN HER TO THE FLOCK TOO SOON.
Make sure that foot is Healing WELL before you return her.

We had to re-treat ours because we released her too soon and she got it infected again.

We did nightly espoms salt soaks, iodine washes and neosporin packs on the foot for weeks ( 2 -3 ) before it was finally over.
We had to cut it open 4 different times - - -

#1 - - We didn't go deep enough the first time
#2 - - We went in a second time and got the core / plug out

#3 - - Released too early and got re-infected with in a 1/2 week and had to go back in and remove small amounts of infection
#4 - - After 2 weeks, we went in again just to see if it was getting better.
It had a hard spot under the scab, but when we went in the hole looked good and we hit
blood earlier than before. So, we knew it was healing - - - just very slowly

At this point, we did not go in again. However, we continued with the nightly soaks, iodine, neosporin and bandaging.
It was an obnioux pain after a few weeks . . . BUT she was finally released and the foot was totally flat without any red inflamed color. The scab was still there and it was still healing FROM INSIDE OUT.

GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the warning. Our hen let us clean it completely and we were not timid about getting it completely clean. There was nothing left in the foot. There's a hole right through the foot so you can see completely through. She is good to keep bandages in place and enjoys daily treatments. We'll tend to the foot as long as is necessary. Really appreciate the feedback. Thank you!
