Hey, first time chicken mom here. Just wanted to say Hey!
We currently have 4 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Brown Leghorn and 2 Sapphires.
I have 2 kids, a 2yr old and a 9 month old along with 3 dogs, 1 cat (who thinks he's a dog) and my husband.
My chicks are currently in an old dog kennel with cardboard around it.

What are some absolute NO's in regards to feeding chickens?

Welcome to BYC! Glad you are here! There’s lots of info on what you should/shouldn’t feed chickens on here. Hopefully it will help. I agree that too many treats is a “no.” There’s a lot of things that are unsafe/toxic for chickens, too. I just don’t know all of them but I’m sure there’s a bunch listed on here somewhere.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Baby chicks shouldn't get anything other than chick crumbles until they are about a month or older, and then, just in very small quantities.

A good first treat is scrambled eggs.

Once we start feeding them anything other than their feed, they need grit to be able to break it down in their crops.

Here's a post with a list of "toxic" plants to chickens. Take it with a grain of salt though as for instance, tomatoes, our silkies love when we toss them the ones that got too ripe on us. Other things may grow in your yard, and the chickens know better than to eat it. I've never heard of a chicken dying because it ate a toxic plant. Not saying that hasn't happened, but our silkies go down in the woods in the summer to gosh knows what's in there and they never get sick.
