(This is the second time I post this thread. Don't know why the previous one disappearing.)

I saw a very beautiful egg carton design from an Hungarian art student Otilia Erdelyi. It is very neat and I decide to make some of it for myself. All materials just a piece of cardboard, an oval cutter, and some glue.

The following picture is what I figured out by looking at these beautiful pictures. For one egg, the size of the cardboard is 14'' by 2.5''(like the plan below). For half of a dozen is 14'' by 15''. The wide of each color block is 1.5'', 1.5'', 2.5'', 3'', 2.5'', 1.5'', and 1.5''. The oval size is two 2'' by 2.5'' and one 2'' by 2'' on the side.

This is what I made earlier today. Kinda ugly because I do not have an oval cutter in hand. Will build some more in the future. This is a very good home project, not for commercial use.

This looks really great.

How does it look when the carton is fully open? Is the opening function awkward? Are you going to keep your carton natural colored or are you going to color it somehow? Will love to see how you finish this project.

I just ordered one heavy-duty circle cutter and circle puncher from Amazon. Will continue my project once they arrive. An oval cutter is too annoying so I will just use circle cutter to make the oval shape. When the carton is fully open, there is no problem to take an egg (if it is smaller than both 2.5'' hight and 2'' wide) out of the hole. If your girls have eggs larger than this size, you may need to redesign the size of the carton, or just simply cut it in half without a cover.
