Homemade Kennel Cover

The ready-made pitched roof w/ tarp that are intended for 10x10 kennels are only $100 or so. IMO it's well worth it. They are metal, so much stronger than PVC (which will start cracking pretty quickly once it has frozen a few times). They last forever and all you have to replace is the tarp every couple of years.

Here is mine:

I looked at some online, and they were a lot more expensive than $100. Do you have a link? Where did you buy it?

Actually, I believe the one I seen was local, and it was around $200 or more.

I got the same one for my 10x10 dogkennel at TSC for $99.

Now I'm wondering if what I seen was for the whole kennel... Looks like I'm going to be buying one!

Thanks!

Yup--TSC is where mine came from, too. I, too, tried to figure out how to make one, but finally decided it was gonna cost nearly as much and not be as good. I'm VERY pleased that I bought this one!

TSC kinda sucks--they don't all have the same things and it's hit or miss what they'll get in on the truck. But ask yours to see if they have it in and if not find out what day of the week the truck arrives and call that day. Occasionally they'll let you special order but usually not.

I set up a 10 by 10 dog kennel pen for a daytime turnout pen and wanted a top on it to keep them dry.

So I purchased a cheap 10 by 12 tarp at Menards and a few bungee cords. I took a treated 2 by 4 by 8 ft. long board and dug a hole in center of pen and "planted" the 2 by 4 board making sure it was taller than the pen.

Placed a plastic coffee jug over top of board so it would not tear the tarp. Placed tarp over and used bungee cords to attach to kennel at corners and couple places on sides. It made a tent structure, rain runs off and was cheap to do...

I was very disappointed in the TSC kennel cover! I purchased for my 10x10 kennel. It assembled easily, but the tarp did NOT span the frame completely.( at least 2 inch gap all around). and it did not fit the top of my kennel squarely(even though I purchased my kennel from TSC as well).
I ended up taking it all apart, repacking and returning all in the same afternoon. I still have not found a permanent salution, but will probably be building a pitched roof for it in the spring.( using 2x4's and corrugated roof panels)
Good luck in whatever you come up with!
