Does anyone have the Welsummer X Legbar Olive eggers from Hoover Hatchery? I know there is a possibility they could lay brown eggs. Mine seem to be taking a while to lay (which is fine, they are 22 weeks), I’m just wondering if maybe they are laying and they are laying brown eggs instead of olive eggs? 4 out of our 16 chicken flock are OE and no olive eggs yet. Did you get brown or olive eggs from yours? Thanks 😀

I don't have those but they are pretty straightforward. Those are crosses that can possibly lay brown eggs instead of green. There is no way we can realistically give you any assurances based on that information. However, you can check a couple of things to see if they are laying and maybe what eggs they are laying.

Do the vent check. If a hen or pullet is laying or really close to laying her vent will be pink, soft, and moist. If she is not laying or close to laying her vent will be tight and dry. You have some hens laying. Look at their vent to get an idea of what a soft pink moist vent looks like.

Or you can do the food dye test. Put food dye in the vent and see if the eggs have colored streaks on them. This U-tube can help you with that.

I did some closer coop watching and the smaller egg is definitely from my one OE that is laying. Hopefully I’ll get some green from my other 3 🤞

I wasn’t really asking for any assurances, just wondering what folks were getting from them 😀 thanks for all the info!

I have 5 of them from Hoovers, 27 weeks old, started laying at 23-24 weeks. These are the eggs I’m getting from them. I’ve done a lot of spying on the chicken cam to figure out who is laying what. The speckled one, I was actually standing in front of the hen when she laid. The one next to it seems the most olive to me with a slightly yellow tint. The ones far left seem a dark gray-green in comparison to the middle one. A nice variety.
