hello so I've been thinking of starting to get my stock from an online hatchery and I've chosen hoovers
I re-sell chicks and I just thought that hoover's hatchery was relatively cheap.

I picked egg layers hatchery's choice assortment and crested assortment
questions...
-what are your experiences with hoover's hatchery?
-do you recommend it?
-if you do could you show pictures of the ones you ordered?

Thank u.

I just posted, about one of my chicks being weirdly ill. I bought ten from rural king, they came from Hoover hatchery... I’ve lost two already, and have more sick ones. I think I will just order online from Meyer hatchery next time :/

A friend used to order form hoovers. He got a turkey, a couple of bantams, and some chickens. delivery seems to be very timely. never got any complaint about the animals too. all seem active and healthy.

If you are reselling chicks seems to reason that taking away the shipping and stress of shipping is to your advantage. Are there any hatcheries near you that you can pick up from? For example, if I go to Meyer (3.5 hours from me, but if visiting relatives it is on the way), I can pick out of their “extra bin” for a couple bucks a chick. Supposed to be all females (but errors occur). No breed ID, no sexing guarantee. Once I picked out a pricey chick by chance, was pleased once I realized what I had. But all their female chicks cost more than a couple bucks each.

I've used hoovers a couple times. I've never had any issues. Delivery time takes about 2 days depending on where you live.

I ordered all my chicks last year from Hoover all arrived healthy and all made it to adults. Part of my order was 4 Dominique's one had a single comb so I don't know if it was from cross breeding or if they gave me a barred rock. I have read that dominiques can have single combs on occasion because of them also having barred rock in their genes from many years ago. Personally it did not matter to me my chickens don't need to be show quality, they are my pets who give me eggs to eat. I also ordered some Lavender Orpingtons, they are way cheaper at Hoover. I ordered 3 hens and 1 Rooster. They all are very large, bigger than my Jersey Giants. My Rooster is a fine looking bird with wonderful coloring I am very Happy with him. My Black Jersey Giant girls are way smaller than they should be but my white Jersey Giant ladies are pretty good sized I am assuming they are the right size for the breed. Granted my chickens are not a year old yet, 2 months to go. And I know Jersey Giants are slow growers but the blacks I have are no bigger that my Easter Eggers. My Midnight Majesty Maran are pretty large and lay nice dark brown eggs. My Calico Princess are also large and lay a big light brown egg. I also have speckled Sussex, Buff orpingtons which are smaller than the Lavenders, Easter Eggers and Buckeyes. My Buckeye Rooster is a handsome boy with a wonderful pea comb, he also likes to be held. I am going to hatch some mix breeds out this spring. I would order again from Hoover if I wanted to add new breeds to my flock.

I just received my order from Hoover's. I ordered back in April, for a June 23 ship date. The chicks got to me in Ohio in less than two days, and all 21 of them seem super lively and healthy. :) Given the shipping delays the USPS has had lately, I was very worried, but they arrived a whole day ahead of the estimated delivery time. Very pleased!
