How broody are Orpingtons?

I have two Orpingtons. One is a Lavender that has never gone broody, and another is a Buff that goes broody once or twice a year. The Buff is really easy to break if I want, but I did let her hatch out chicks this year, and she was great.

I have 2 orps, one black, one white. Black has never gone broody, white is broody right now, but she wasn't in the first round of broodies for the year so I'm taking that as a good sign for moderate broody instead of always broody. It's her first spring, she was last season's first hatch.

I have a buff brahma x buff Orpington from a breeders project. She goes broody as soon as you let eggs pile up. I collect twice a day and there's no issue, any time I can't collect by 5pm and she's trying to sit. She's easy to "break" if I catch it right away, I just kick her off the nest and close off the coop for a few hours, very rarely takes more than 2 days to prevent full on broody hypnosis. She's the one I'm looking forward to letting sit this spring.

I wish I could say from my own experience because I have THREE Orpingtons and two are 7 months and one is 5 months and no eggs yet… But I can say they have lovely temperaments! I also have a Lav Orp rooster who is generally a very good boy. My girls are Isabel Lavender laced English Orpingtons and my younger one is a Mauve Orpington (dilute of chocolate) They are all wonderful personalities and I love how easily they get along with all my other birds. I also have bantam Cochins and silkies, so I’m guessing my opinion would be they aren’t real broody in comparison

I breed English Orpingtons and I get a few broody girls throughout the year, but not often.
