How do I keep snakes away from my chicken coop? Any natural repellents that work?

Hi everyone!! We have seen two black snakes around in the yard, and we want to make sure they don’t ever reach our chicken coop or near their run. We want to know if there have been any methods that have worked and if there are any natural repellents? I’ve heard cinnamon, garlic, or onions work, but were curious if there is anything else?

We have dogs! So we want to make sure they are safe, but that our chickens are safe too. Please let us know!!

Think less about a snake repellent and more about what is attracting the snakes. Snakes come for the mice and rats and stay for the eggs and chicks.

Look for rodent signs, or if you see one rodent you might have ten or a hundred.

Solution for both snakes and rodents..... stop feeding them and they have to leave.

So is it a known fact that if you have chickens, you have/will have snakes?Does Snake Repell work for anyone if that's true? I haven't seen any sign but my chicks aren't producing eggs yet (if that matters).

Someone on another thread suggested putting dog poop where the snakes go in and out. Sounds reasonable to me. I have an unlimited supply of the stuff so I am going to give it a try. I believe I am snake-free at the moment but at some point I will try to come back and give an update.

snakes generally dont bother chickens .. like said though, if you have gaps larger than 1/2" black snakes will be eating your eggs sooner or later .. theyre more a benefit to your place than a detriment though and eat alot of other pests ..
