How do you play with your ducks?

Usually I will just use treats to try to get them to trust me...I try to play and interact with them as much as I can when they're young, and then they learn to be friendly.

My current babies (thanks to my hen hiding a nest...) are all very friendly and will just stand there and chew on my shoes (thus getting my legs--owch) while I'm working with them. My 2 year old hen is my friendliest and will do just about anything for a treat. I don't necessarily 'train' her, but I'll play little 'games' for her to get the treat. Usually its just getting her to jump in the air. Today I got her to weave around my legs as I just thought of it, then jump at the end. Too cute. She really is a little pig. :)

Another thing I've done, that others have mentioned, is let the ducks find bugs with my help. We have a lot of different planters around the yard, or old piles of bedding, and I'll move those around and let them look for the bugs underneath. My one hen (above mentioned) will come running when we say 'bug!'.

Are black crickets ok to feed them? Surely they eat them ranging around. I didn’t realize many have a parasite inside???

Now I wonder should I de-worm a duck?? I can’t imagine anything could stay inside them long enough before they got shot out the feathered bum . I love them, they are the cutest and sweetest of hearts but Lord the Poo!!!!!!’ Good thing they are that darn cute! I’m not afraid of poop or any sane person would back out quickly.

I have a video I hope I can figure out how to post here. The little gals and boy are in their baby pool swimming into the hose spray and loving it. Sometimes they bite at it and enjoy trying to fend it off. The brown Layer and Cayuga strut up to the spray and get a little massage I suppose. Makes me laugh...
