How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Yes I enjoy the spotty colour pattern also. I have a few spotty ladies. And feathered feet? Lovely!

Where did you get her? It’s so difficult to get any specialty chooks up here. Peavey Mart (think TSC) brings chicks up from Hoovers Hatchery, but they don’t have the full selection that Hoovers offers.

I do have a few cute Buif Orps and a Lavender Orp. I bought one of their hybrid Midnight Majesty Marans - closest I could get a Marans. But Shirley turned out to be Shorty! He’s a gorgeous specimen of Roosterhood and I bet well over 10lbs. And he showed his Barred Rock heritage and feathered legs ♥️

I was really hoping for some darker eggs.
It must be frustrating to get a male when you bought a “pullet”from a sex-linked breed, but Shorty sounds like a handsome guy nonetheless :)

I got Helmi from Meyer Hatchery in Ohio. Not too far from you I imagine, but I don’t know if they ship across the border.

2 eggs today, from Helmi and Ebrel! It was Brel’s first egg, sweet girl! I guess she followed Helmi’s lead. Now I’m just waiting on my little Dominique, Marzo, to start laying.

Ebrel is a Welsummer, so her eggs will likely always be speckled like this one. I do love Wellie eggs as each one is always a little different :)

No they don’t ship across the border.

Not sure how Peavey Mart and Hoovers do it.

He is a gorgeous boy, barred pattern like his Barred Rock side, with feathered legs like his Marans side.

And his stripes are golden not white.

Today the ladies gave me 14 eggs. I collected them quickly as it was quite cold and I didn’t want them to freeze.

Boy I really envy y'all with chickens that get grass and all kinds of organic matter to scratch around in.

Our chickens get this:

😒

It makes cleaning their pens super easy, and the chickens have all the grit and dust baths they want. On the other hand, we have to provide all the plants and insects for them plus make sure they have enough interesting stuff to interact with. Otherwise I think they'd die of boredom!
