Correct except one difference between the chickens and the ducks I noticed that the chickens destroyed plantains, but the duck do not and for several years the duck pen was completely full of broadleaf plantain until I added chickens, then it was straight up dirt zero green. now I have separated the chickens out from the ducks and hope the plantains will come back to Green up the duck landSo geese = green lawn, duck = chicken same no lawn.
Now that you mention it, my banana plants all gone when that area become chicken runs. They dug up the roosts and all. I got some turmeric and ginger plants growing high and green, once my chickens entered, those were down to nothingness.Correct except one difference between the chickens and the ducks I noticed that the chickens destroyed plantains, but the duck do not and for several years the duck pen was completely full of broadleaf plantain until I added chickens, then it was straight up dirt zero green. now I have separated the chickens out from the ducks and hope the plantains will come back to Green up the duck land
I wonder if they would do better on a 20% or higher protein all-flock or grower feed, with the oyster shell on the side. Idk though.Yes, they have oyster shell available at all times. A couple weeks ago I did calcium plus D tablets for about five days…the shells improved but then after a few days they got soft again. I’m doing the calcium plus D tabs again. I’m really not sure why they do this. Last year I had hardly any issues with shells. They get 16%layer feed, have oyster shell available, I feed back their shells, I give soldier fly larvae as treats, and they get free range time a few hours daily. And it’s only my Golden Comets that lay weird eggs. My Bantams have good shells when they lay.
Thank you, I'll look into these.Silverudd Blues/Isbars lay a pale green egg, and it’s sometimes speckled. Really lovely! Cackle Hatchery sells them I believe, but they’re currently out of stock.
Edit to say that they are a true breed of chicken rather than a hybrid, so you can buy them from other places too, not exclusively Cackle. Greenfire Farms also carries them, etc.
You’re welcome!Thank you, I'll look into these.
This kind of plantainNow that you mention it, my banana plants all gone when that area become chicken runs. They dug up the roosts and all. I got some turmeric and ginger plants growing high and green, once my chickens entered, those were down to nothingness.
Ducks = Ok with big leafly plants. I keep that in mind.
