Awwwww! Glad she was ok. Darn chooks always giving us stress!I forgot to mention the drama when we got home.
We got home a little later than we really wanted to - right after dark at 6:00 and the girls were up. But not closed in. I went to close them in right after getting off my bike and counted 13 chickens in the hen house.
I have 17 chickens.
So I call out to hubby and he is just the absolute best - he goes and gets two flashlights and off we go... to find our girls. We have a bachelor pad up in one corner of the property and one of the Cockerels was crowing -- they typically do NOT crow at 6pm so we checked there. No girls.
We checked the hedge. No girls.
They LOVE the lean to where we park the tractor... so I go to peek at the tractor but first I check the fence line for predator activity like.. was anything fussing at the wire, etc? So along goes my flashlight along the fence and right on the top of the fence by the hen house there sit 3 of my girls. But Chocolate is missing.
So I'm like hmm the tractor all the while my husband is like "I looked there" but I *heard* something and sure enough -- she's tucked up on the foot area by the gas pedal. I went around to go get her and I didn't realize it when I picked her up her TOE WAS STUCK IN THE LITTLE HOLES. I yanked it out!!! YIKES!!!
I was holding her and her little foot was in a little ball in my hand, but it was ok, she was ok but I was cradling it and holding it gently and holding her and cooing over her and I swear these birds.. they kinda love attention?!? don't they?? She was like oooooh mom is lovin on me! and she didn't mind one bit -- also probably because I rescued her from the evil HOLE. lol
I brought her back to the hen house and was like "LOOK EVERYONE ITS CHOCOLATE!" and I swear to god those 3 girls out on the fence couldn't bring themselves to GO AND ROOST because Chocolate was NOT OKAY. AND THEY KNEW IT.
I freaking LOVE these birds. I LOVE them!!! They are the best.
