Any advice/tips on how to fix a broken leg?
One of my ducks got stepped on by my horse last night. She was flapping around trying to get back to the duck pen. I picked her up and felt her legs and one is clearly broken. I can feel where the bone is separated. It's between the top of the thigh and the knee.
She doesn't seem to be in any pain, but this morning the leg was turned at a funny angle. I had one break it's leg a while back but it was higher up. I put him in a quiet place for 2 months and he healed on his own. You would never know it was broken. But I don't think this one will heal as well on it's own.
She is now in my gosling brooder pen so she won't get hurt any more. She doesn't seem to be in too much pain as she laid an egg for me this morning. I am just wondering if I should splint the leg?

Just looking for advice/ideas/ friendly opinions

Thanks!

I've not done it, but I would splint the leg, and go with my usual protocol of vitamins-electrolytes-probiotics, Epsom salts compresses, and since I do herbal things sometimes, some comfrey salve.

Good Idea. I have some fat popsicle sticks I am going to splint the leg with today.
She laid another egg today so again, she doesn't seem to be in too much pain. But I don't want the leg to heal wrong which is why I am going to splint it.

Poor baby, I hate seeing them injured. They always hang out with my horse too but for some reason they didn't go inside when it got dark and he didn't see her (she's a khaki so I think her color blended in with the mud)
