I’ve been asked by Notch, one of the roosters here, to ask if they make such collars for hens.
The reason he asks apparently, is he ends up with a headache by the end of the day listening to his hens screeching escort calls (mistakenly called the egg song) every time they go off and lay an egg. All he wants to do is have a quiet nap while the hens are off laying.
The way he looks at is, while he may make a bit of a racket from time to time he doesn’t expect anyone to drop what they are doing and run over open ground every half hour risking their lives when he crows, while the hens do.
He learns quickly does Notch, and it didn’t take him long to change the saying ‘out of sight, out of mind’ to ‘can’t hear it, isn’t happening’.;)

You could still call it the egg song anyway because it’s preformed right after they lay an egg.

I used a no crow collar on my rooster and it worked great. The trick is getting the right fit on the neck. I had to play around with it to get it right. My rooster tried to run backward to back out of it when I first applied it. He eventually accepted it.
You need to recheck the fit frequently on growing birds so it doesn't get too tight.

Thank you for this I know it’s a little old but we have hatched our first ever chickens 3wks old now and I’m so worried about roosters now at least I have some options what brand collar did you use?

I have used the collar from My Pet Chicken. It worked well. You have to play around with snugness and neck location. He could still make a muffled noise, not a full blown crow.

I used the no crow collar from “my pet chicken” at first.

Then, I made my own with Velcro and fabric. (I sew.)

Do you live in town?
No I’m on the other side of the world in Sydney I’m so worried we are going to have heaps of roosters and we are so attached to all the chicks they are bantams so I’m hoping between the collars and being smaller maybe they won’t upset the neighbourhood to much

I tried Velcro.. (sucked) then elastic (sucked a little less).. then I came to use wide cable ties. They were the most convenient to cut and change when they go too tight with growing chooks. Can't see them, doesn't mess up their feathers. One chook got its bottom beak stuck in it twice though picking at it at first.

Thanks for this they are only 3weeks old right now I’m just trying to prepare myself for the inevitable roosters that are sure to be in the flock and being in Sydney ppl can be a little put off by anything really so I’m sure a crowing rooster might not be to welcome but I’ll do whatever I can to keep them together if at all possible.
Quite worried my surprise frizzle is a rooster too not sure if I’m just paranoid though.

I got carried away and hatched 30 bantams all at once. I live on acreage, but still, once they started crowing it was a bit embarassing...

The Velcro was too hard to get right with so many of them and it gets dirty. The elastic was ok but it was hard to size because it was hard to get off again afterwards so I had to cut it off and make more rings. Then I thought of cable ties... After getting the fit about right there good for a while on growing chooks, they crow every day so it's easy to hear where there at  with the tightness.

I just started off loose and clicked them in if they were too loose. And cut them when they sounded real weird. I was worried about them swallowing something large and it getting stuck, but it never happened, I think they would be able to regurgitate and shake it out anyway.

But still, collars aren't muting by any means. They only reduce their crow volume... I sold all except one eventually (minus cable ties).
