Human deterrent against bobcat?

Can human urine (male/testosterone) deter bobcats?

My dad wants to know.

I would heartily recomend your Dad hiking his leg on the coop posts to deter predators.

The down side is that it could attract a lovely female Bigfoot.

It might work but eventually they'll figure it out and the gigs up. Same as people saving hair from a hair cut and putting it around the garden to keep deer out.

No it won't. they are not worried about humans unless they have a reason to be. if they see you they will move to cover and wait for you to leave. if they smell human odor's their noses can tell how fresh the scent is.

I very much doubt it.

It might work out in the wilds of Alaska where the bobcat doesn't ever see humans except to occasionally get shot at. In your home, where you live, the bobcat is not afraid of humans, or he wouldn't be coming around your house and barns.

The bobcats around here only understand one thing. High voltage electric fence(Not the hardware store Fi-do variety). Back in the mid 90's We had 3 bait pens to test various predators. The bobcat was the worst. They could clear a 8' pen from a dead sit without touching it. They could one paw a 10' pen. They are very determined creatures and will contemplate a way in. It took approximately 8000v to send them running and screaming. At 5000v they just turned around trying to figure out another way in. I haven't seen but one bobcat on my property since. We did these bait pens for over 3 years. This was a joint effort from myself and 2 neighboring farmers in my backyard. FYI...no birds were in harms way during this project.

If you decide to go this route I also suggest baiting the pen each night for a while. Take a piece of tinfoil and wrap it and some fish around the strand of electrical fencing in a few places around the perimeter of the pen(10lb box of whiting is pretty reasonable at the grocery store.) This will deter most predators that eat chicken. There are other ways I'm sure, but this works.

I am not sure it is worth effort just because you have bobcats. I have at least one that has been seen only a handfull of times over last three years but have not been able to attribute loss of a single chicken to it / them. During winter it walks through cockyard where dog and I (just for fun to anoy wife) mark and its tracks do not seem to approach or avoid frequent spots marked.
