I brought home a 1-month old yesterday to add to my flock of three 5.5-week olds.

The new chicky (an Owlbeard) is so small. Like half the size of my other girls if that. She's eating and drinking well. And moves around fine but not particularly active. But she stands hunched like this. A little puffy.

I noticed a little red in a couple of poos. May get a fecal test done just in case.

I am giving her vitamin/electrolyte water.

She has only known as brooder in a storage shed so she's probably a little overwhelmed too.

Any thoughts? Is standing like that a sign of something more?

I’ve never seen something like that! Coming from someone who deals with a rooster that deals with frequent brain damage, I’d say you should definitely get a fecal test done. Do you know how long it’s exactly been happening? Also you should move her somewhere separate to calm her down to see if it’s stress related.

I actually had her separated in the brooder but she slipped through a gap because she wanted to join the girls on the other side! That pic is when she slipped out and was just over there eating their food haha.

Right now she's in the brooder you see, and the other 3 are out running around in the room. I'm giving her a lot of alone time in there to eat and drink and familiarize herself.

I will msg the seller and see if she has any insight. She wasn't raised as a pet so they didn't spend much time with her :(

Okay lol, chickens are kind of weird sometimes :D. Is she energetic? Is the hunch the only issue?
She's not really energetic. But not lethargic either. Like she will walk around and explore and eat and drink and scratch a bit. She preens and poos ok. But she doesn't run around like banshees like my other 3. Maybe she just needs time to adjust 🤞

I'd check for lice/mites.
I did a quick check when I picked her up yesterday. And just did a thorough one...vent area, preen gland, back, and under wing. Looks good no mites or lice.

Seller says she's used to a heat lamp so she might be chilled. She hasn't figured out the brooder plate yet. I'll move it over her tonight!

Hunched, unkempt looking with some mucous and intestinal shedding in the poop.

I'd treat for Coccidiosis. I'd give her a direct oral drench asap at a rate of 0.10ml Liquid Corid per pound of weight twice daily for 3 days.

The oral drench is In Addition to her drinking Mixed Corid Water as her only source of drinking water for 5-7days. (dosing below)

Providing her with some extra heat is probably a good idea, just make sure she has room to move from heat since she's feathered out.

Liquid Corid dose is 2tsp or Powdered Corid Dose is 1 1/2tsp per gallon of water given for 5-7 days as the only source of drinking water.
Do not add any extra vitamins/electrolytes that contain B1(Thiamine) to food or water during the course of treatment.

She improved throughout the day and acting quite 'normal' now!

But i think I'll do the CORID anyways since it can't hurt, right?

Is it ok to give CORID even if they eat a medicated feed with Amprolium already?

The other 3 girls will be drinking the same water if that changes anything.

Yes, you can give Corid while they are on medicated feed. It won't hurt for the other chicks to drink the medicated water.
