So I have 6 total chickens, they are all almost 8 weeks old. 4 of them have no comb development whatsoever so I’m leaning towards hens on those.

These 2, the black one seems to be a barred Wyandotte and the other seems to be a lavender splash. They came from a mixed flock and I’ve only seen pictures of 2 roosters from the farm, an Ayam Cemani and a Barred Rock with potential moms being golden laced Wyandotte, australorp and an Easter egger.

This is the only comb development out of my 6 chicks. There is no wattle development whatsoever. The lavender splash is huge compared to the other 5 and seems to run the chicken yard lol

Are they Roos or hens?

Cockerel and likely cockerel.
Poo lol I kinda figured 2pac, my lavender splash was a rooster, but the other one, Alice Cooper I was hoping for a hen! I don’t want them to end up on a dinner plate so I might send 1 to the farm sanctuary near my house so I still visit him. Thanks for your input!

Wait a bit longer until you can be certain.
Yeah I plan on keeping them as long as possible, and 1 long term, but I don’t know how 2 roosters would exist with only 4 hens. Also I’m taking a chance keeping a rooster at all due to our city ordinances but our neighbor has had a rooster since we bought our house and nobody says anything. And considering the proximity I doubt any other neighbors would notice a new crow without explaining it away as theirs.

I’ve pretty much driven myself crazy on Google searching for what roosters look like vs hens at 8 weeks. So much contradictory information out there, with pictures adding even more confusion lol. I also read that our farm sanctuaries here in Colorado are all full and have been inundated with roosters, so let’s just hope for the best! I’m extremely attached to them, first flock and going through the incubation and hatching.

Both look like cockerels
So Tupac, my lavender splash, is 100% rooster. He crowed. Did it a second time just so we knew lol. Alice Cooper the barred hybrid is not yet crowing but I have noticed the tail feathers are starting to arch.

Would roosters snuggle together though? I’d think they would constantly fight for the lead position. But again I’ve only ever been around flocks that had a single rooster. These 2 never fight and they sleep next to each other.
