One of my 8 month old Brahma girls laid a very large egg today and when I picked it up from the nest the outer shell cracked. My finger went right through it and I just thought it was a thin shelled egg until I felt something hard under my finger. I took it in the house and sure enough there was a complete shell and albumin covering a smaller egg. I took the outside shell off and washed the inside egg and it looked completely normal. I cracked it and used it in a cake tonight and it was completely normal on the inside also. Has anyone ever seen this and is the hen OK?

It's rare, but it happens. The egg when it's nearly ready to be laid reverses and gets another coat (shell) and sometimes another load of albumen before exiting. There's some more examples and pics here if you are interested:

I found a double shelled egg from my hens too. Though it is extremely rare, it is perfectly fine for the hen to lay it. This occurs when a hen has formed an egg and is ready to lay it but for some reason the egg gets pushed back inside the chicken. This makes it’s body think this is a new egg that needs a shell. Because it is a very large egg a very thin shell is often put on the egg. It may be fairly painful for the hen but there is nothing wrong with receiving one of these eggs. They are so rare you are actually extremely lucky to find one. Much more uncommon than a double yolk egg.

I made me some boiled eggs at home and when I peeled one of them one end had a double shell. I had never seen anything like that before in my life and didn't know what to think about it. I asked my sister and daughter if they had experienced it before. They hadn't. Now that I know that it can happen, I don't feel like I'm going crazy. LoL.

Wow, I had no idea this was possible. Sounds uncomfortable but so cool how their bodies work!
1/20/22... I just opened my daily morning boiled egg.... It had 2 shells. A regular outter and an inner shell 1/4" under it and a normal 1 yolk small egg inside that I ate as usual for b-fast. First time in 60 years! LOL

I just got a double shell today. I thought the egg was broken.
