I AM AT AN ABSOLUTE LOSS AS TO HOW I PROCCEED.
I HAVE BEEN TREATING A PULLET WITH SOUR CROP FOR OVER TWO MONTHS NOW, WITH NO RESULTS. EVERY TIME I THINK I FINALLY HEALED HER, IT SEEMS TO RETURN.
I STARTED BY WITHDRAWING FOOD FOR 24HRS, THEN INTRUDUCING SOFT FOODS AND YOGURTS, THEN PROGRESSED TO SOFTENED CHICK FOOD. THIS SEEMED TO HAVE WORKED, OR SO I THOUGHT, BUT SOON AS SHE WENT BACK OUT TO FREERANGE IT RETURNED ALMOST OVER NIGHT.
I HAVE REPEATED THIS PROCCES 3-4 TIMES WITH NO RESULTS, SO I STARTED GIVING HER A FUNGAL GEL 3 TIMES PER DAY, 3 TUBES OF GEL AND 2 WEEKS LATER, STILL NO RESULTS.
i DECIDED TO TRY THE CANESTEN ONCE CAPSULE, DEVIDED IT UP INTO 3 DOSES, OVER 3 DAYS, I THOUGHT I HAD REALLY CURED HER THIS TIME BECAUSE FOR THE 1ST TIME IN WEEKS SHE HAD A COMPLETELY EMPTY CROP ON THE 3RD DAY, BUT 2 DAYS LATER AND HER CROP WAS AS FULL AS EVER.
I AM AT A TOTAL LOSS AS TO, HOW TO PROCCEED WITH THIS PROBLEM. mY MOTHER IN LAW WHO HAS KEPT CHICKENS ALL HER LIFE SAID IT WAS TIME TO CULL HER, BUT I REALLY DON'T WANT TO.
i HAVE NOT TREATED HER WITH ANY THING FOR THE LAST 2 DAYS OR GIVEN HER ANY DIFFERENT FOOD AS THE OTHER HENS AND I HAVE LET HER OUT OF THE HOSPITAL COOP, AS SHE WAS BECOMING DEPPRESSED AND HAD STARTED PACING UP AND DOWN ALL DAY.
SHE WONDERS AROUND LIKE NORMAL, LOOKING FOR FOOD AND EATING THE LAYERS PELLETS, SHE IS DRINKING FINE AND POOPING, BUT BY LATE LUNCH TIME SHE IS VOMITING ON AND OFF THROUGH OUT THE REST OF THE DAY.

WHAT CAN I POSSIBLY DO OR TRY THAT I HAVE NOT ALREADY, OPEN TO ANY NEW SUGGESTIONS AS I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO CULL HER.

PS IT WAS SUGGESTED TO ME THAT BECAUSE SHE IS NOT RESPONDING TO TREATMENT, IT MAY BE BECAUSE SHE HAS ANOTHER PROBLEM CAUSING THIS, ANY IDEAS WHAT OTHER POBLEMS CAN BE CAUSING THIS, OR COULD CAUSE THIS?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

Hmmmm... have you tried giving her ACV??? If you keep it in her water on a regular basis....it might help. If you don't want to cull her - you may have to keep her from free-ranging since that seems to be where she's getting the offending food....sorry you're having such problems.

I have put acv in her water since the 1st day she was diagnosed with sour crop.

This is something I have learned recently so take it with a grain of salt and read up on it if interested:

"Canker" can cause sour crop. It blocks the exit of the crop.

Thank you for the link, i did read it but don't think this is what i am dealing with as she does not have any of the signs stated except for the pendules crop.
Many thanks anyway, need to find out what or how to treat before it is too late.

marlene - a really full crop doesn't necessarily mean she has "sour crop". What are her symptoms that lead you to conclude that she has sour crop? Are you sure that's what you are dealing with?

Hi Rhodeislandredfan, her crop is large and liquid filled and has been for over 2 months now. At the start of treatment i withdrew food for 24hrs, then slowly introduced yogurt, next day yougurt and eggs, then chick food soaked in warm water to soften it up. She was on this diet for a month with no results. I then tried daktarin oral gel, which i gave her for 2 weeks, the crop did go down and was not so filled with fluid, but as soon as i stopped giving her the gel, the crop was filled with fluid within 48hrs. I then tried an anti fungal capsule which i devided into 3 doses over 3 days, on the 4th day her crop was completely empty for the first time in months, she ate as normal that day, but by the next day it was full of fluid again. I have not treated her for the last for days with any thing and she is wondering around with a very full, fluid filled crop and vomiting on and off through out the day.
I have tried every treatment suggested to me so far and none have worked, someone said that maybe there is another problem going on that is causing the sour crop.
My last resort now is antibiotics, if that does not work, then i really don't know what i will do, really do not want to cull her.

I’m struggling with a very thin silkie who has sour crop so I have been researching like crazy too. I came across chicken sling/ bra. Apparently some chickens do have pendulous crops and that makes them prone to all these problems.
I have ordered one but I’m not sure my girl would like to be trust up all day. I worry about preening etc. I don’t know if that’s worth looking into?
