I need a better scratch option from TSC.

My hens and the wild birds are saying the majority millet/milo ones suck. So we have turned to this stuff lately https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/value-mix-wild-bird-food-35-lb the wheat seems to be the only thing anyone wants as summer is here. The cracked corn is a small percentage too and gets consumed. Lately the BOSS we add is getting ignored.

Is there a good alternative source of 50lb bags of the wheat? I am thinking of trying oats next as nothing eats the majority of this stuff. I hope @Kiki can chime in as she has experience in feed. My chicken still have 20-24% flock feeder on demand all day.

Trust me the milo base is so bad rats do not eat the billed out food overnight, just my food centric dogs. This years rat census(according to my cats) has been very low so it is probably good to apply milo around your foundations as a repellent.
Kiki does not believe in treats of any kind. I am a firm believer in a pelleted or crumble feed ONLY.

If you want to try some 4 grain I'd be happy to barter with you :). Maybe for some plant cuttings or something :)
Lol the only cuttings I currently have going are cactus, and tons of agave pups if that is your thing. Could spare a pineapple but they would need a new container and are now 8 months out from fruiting. If you haven't looked up "Mike Heeps Nursery" yet in Harlingen it is very worth the visit for his natives(pro tip) he is a mile north past the Walmart there. He is appointment only as it is a home based side business but the guy has everything I have ever put on my list.

To be honest looking over a new feed store sounds interesting. The one here in Los Fresnos has loads of exotic bird feed types types I will buy on occasion as scratch.

They carry lots of feeds...it's one big room in a barn. They also have 50lb bags of bird food for 25. I go through a LOT so it's nice to be able to get huge bags.

I will check the Nursery. I really want native plants. The crap at the big box stores is making me crazy.

Late evening assessment. Rolled oats were a hit none of them left in the secondary pan. The milo still got tossed away for all the disinterested parties to ignore until the dogs try to sneak it. They get in trouble because it makes dog bombs look diseased. I used to pick up a red looking milo that they would take, but don't do that feed store any longer as it is 15 minutes away and none too cheap plus they fail to order what we had asked for on too many occasions.

Mine are fiends with failed/blemished canteloupe and anything I care to sprout. I do HEB lentil sprouts alot when I find them for less than 80 cents. Going to be interesting to see with our next few days if the canteloupe have a second set as they haven't completely given up the ghost yet.

I was also considering getting the non cracked oats for sprouting at $11/50#.

I built two small and one large grow screen and I'm growing a mixture of wheat, oats and bird seed. Also sprouting some of the wheat and oat mix for fodder. Planning to try out a couple other grows for them. Been watching this guy on YouTube that has some great ideas for chicken composting and ways to grow food in their yard without them eating it down to nothing while it grows.
