i can’t thank you enough for this detailed information! it’s exactly what i needed!

this morning we did our regular routine and the nagging one went into lay an egg. the other one went into the run too to get some food. they had been out an hour. so i took the opportunity and closed the run door. but just now, the nagging one has finished laying and she’s out there ba-gawking her head off.
there’s no threat out there. usually she just sort of yells, but this is BAGAWK for several minutes already.
will she eventually shut up? i am getting picked up for my appointment soon.
my neighbours are going to hate me. lol!
She is announcing that she has laid an egg and expects to be congratulated!
Actually I believe that yelling after laying an egg is to tell her rooster to come get her and escort her to the rest of the flock. Yes I know, no rooster.
In my experience the extent to which they BAGAWK after laying varies from hen to hen and from day to day. A couple of weeks ago 4 or my 5 all laid at the same time and decided to give it their all afterwards. It was deafening!!
It worked of course as I rushed out to see what the issue was and escorted them outside and provided sunflower seeds. I am such a good rooster!

omg! chickens bagawk for that?!?
she never has before. i thought it was because she realized she'd been dirty tricked while she was in the nesting box and was really pissed that she was locked in the small run.
i don't think i'll have to worry about the room for 2 because thelma was sitting in the nest box. she couldn't be bothered yelling and all the drama. she just goes straight in.

now, see. i've said that out loud and when i get home there will be chaos waiting for me.

i'm just in the waiting room.
funny thing...
i'm here for a heart monitor.
how am i gonna explain that it's a chicken that's given me high blood pressure (i really don't have high blood pressure regularly). and it's the chicken that needs medication not me!

Good luck with the heart monitor. The link I posted is just a good article here on BYC. Not a recording of my deafening hens!
i saw it was an article but there's a video in it and i want to watch it.

i'm not so sure these chickens make normal chicken sounds because i really don't know any other chickens.
i thought an egg song would be like cooing.
do you see how i need a lot of help?

everybody was in the coop when i got home. quiet. 🤷🏻‍♀️
