Ideal Poultry EE chick coloring

It seems there is no way to know for sure how the adult EE coloring will turn out based on chick coloring and sure enough all three of these babies surprised me.

They are mixed color. EE have not standard and are a mixture of breeds and colors.

Oh noooooo! I really hope not. She is supposed to be a hen. Ideal has never messed up before but I’m sure it’s possible they sent a cockerel.

Unfortunately, it happens! Vent sexing isn't 100% accurate and EEs can be hard to tell. Fluffy has red in his shoulders which is male specific coloring. You can always post under "what breed or gender" for 2nd opinions but I'm pretty positive you've got a little cockerel on your hands.

It’s okay. I’m glad I will be mentally prepared now. Fluffy belonged to my oldest son. He is a bit heartbroken but he can choose another chick for his own.
