If you don't know how old your ducks are, how do you know when they're going to lay soon?

I need help! I have 2 Dark Khaki Cambell ducklings, drake and hen, but I think my hen might start laying soon! Problem. I have no idea what age she is! All I know is, she's older than my drake, that I have had them for 39 days, and that my hen can fly.

Please Help!

Depending on where you live- and the exact age- the duck may not lay until next spring. If she can fly- then I assume she has all her adult feathers, which in turn means she could be old enough to start laying very soon. It really is hard to know for sure without knowing exactly how old she is. Some ducks do not start laying until the spring after they hatch.

One tell tail sign that a female will lay soon is that they develop a rounder shape just above and between the legs. She may also start looking for a nesting area and start preparing an area for when she does start laying.

Thank you both sooo much!!! I'll be checking duckyfromoz! I'm so excited. I've had my ducks for just a little while! I watched them grow so much! I looove my ducks. My mom surprised me with them when we got our second batch of chickens. I was ecstatic.

I just got a new laying duck! She's a mallard, and she's been laying good @ wherever I got her, but she hasn't layed so far. But, we found out my ducks are Khaki Campbells! They outlay the BEST chickens. I'M SO PROUD!
