Where are you at? I'm New Lenox. Less than 2 miles from I 355Hello friends! Sorry I am not around as much as I used to be. Life has gotten to be a lot and I'm trying to keep my head above water. And on the list of "a lot" does anyone know of someone who will humanely dispatch in the south suburbs? I have one who's been slow fading for MONTHS and now her flock has turned on her. They got her pretty good about 2 weeks ago so I brought her in the house to heal. Tried to gradually re-introduce once she was healed and they went after her again. She's currently living in my bath tub because I have chicks in the brooder where I would otherwise put her. Not only was she already slowing down, but now she's blind in one eye and can't safely go back to her flock. And she can't live in my bath tub forever either. I think it's time. I would do it myself but I had to cull a sick one a year ago and it was pretty traumatic. I don't think I can do it again. I mean, I would if I had to, but if there's another way, I'd rather not. I am also considering culling the bully hen. She's always been a bully and I think she got injured in the last fight because now she's got a swelling on her face. With new chicks coming to the coop in a few weeks, I can't have a bully out there causing drama and I doubt anyone wants a mean hen that doesn't lay much (never has). She's pretty! But she's mean.
Anyway, long story longer, is anyone aware of someone who can do it humanely that doesn't cost a small fortune?
