I'm so old I Remember when:

I'm so old I remember when it was "catsup" and not "ketchup." Or is that just a regional difference?
Blame it on Heinz:

"Heinz originally bottled their condiment as “tomato catsup” and changed their branding to “Heinz Tomato Ketchup” soon after bringing it to market in order to distinguish it from competitors. Other brands followed suit once it became clear that “ketchup” was the more popular term among U.S. consumers."

I always thought of those as disposable hors d'oeuvre forks that caterers sometimes use. They'd work well for fries, you'd keep the grease/salt/catsup off your fingers.

I remember catsup. I don't know why the difference.
Eta. Thanks R2elk. Sounds about right. Someone decided to change something and everybody jumped on the bandwagon.

I am so old I remember when we used butcher paper to wrap meat, and there was no bottled water. Plastic wrapping was not to be found, and you had wooden prongs to eat fries.
And I remember our local family owned stores writing all the specials on the butcher paper and taping it in the windows. We still get poboys wrapped in butcher paper.

Are your fries different than our fries?
Most here just use their fingers.
Do you have gravy on yours? Gets real messy 😊

Then there are Newfoundland fries: fries covered in cooked ground beef and gravy.

Or Poutine (which I never did like).

Anyways all very messy eating with your fingers!

Sheesh now I am hungry! 😁

We still get meat (from the butcher) wrapped in butcher paper but now it’s lined in plastic not wax 🤨

Which reminds me of my grandmother making dark Christmas cake - she would use brown paper bags as the liner. - she would cut it out for the bottom of the pan, and then the sides. I guess she f one didn’t have parchment paper it worked well enough!

My mum made one last year (she was all nostalgic) and did the same thing.
