I'm so old I Remember when:

TV that essentially has apps/spyware built into it. Usually internet connected as well. The apps are usually streaming services, and the TV usually has some kind of spyware installed.

It's a real shame most consumer TVs are now smart TVs and you can't find good dumb ones unless you are willing to buy a TV meant for commercial use.
So a smart TV is basically jus a big i-Pad (or equivalent)?

In essence, yes, but not really, since you can really only use the apps it comes with, or other apps compatible with it.

What makes it super bad is the ones that force internet connection, and turn into a billboard in your living room. Yes, they do that, supposedly even thousand dollar Samsung models will turn themselves into a billboard, even though you paid a lot for them. These companies are paid to shove it in your eyes.

I don't have wifi so our smart TV doesn't turn into a billboard or any weird crap. It basically has a screen that has streaming services on it. Youtube, Hulu, Paramount +, Disney+, etc.
I can turn on my phone Hotspot and link to it to stream stuff. Of course a few are free and others I have to have a subscription to.

Good on you for keeping it offline most of the time then.

It's my son's TV so no way I would leave it connected but like I said I just have hotspot on my phone and it's limited so sometimes we'll watch something and sometimes I watch something I want to watch.
The way it is It's not really much different then my not smart TV.

Reassuring. But hopefully mine won’t break any time soon so I won’t have to face this issue.

Just ignore it. If they ask, tell them you don't want to digitally manage your health.

I will call tomorrow and listen to 30 minutes of bad music until I can get an actual human to look up my lab results and tell me if I get to continue in the land of the living, or if not, what I'm dying of. :lau
I do not do anything "tele doc/health." I will not, ever. Unless or until I have a life ending condition and an expected under 3 years survival time, my life and health are not going online. Period.

Interesting. I actually love tele-health stuff.
So much better than going to a doctor in person! I also like being able to read my medical records and test results myself and not have to rely on someone interpreting it all for me.
To me it is banking and credit cards that freak me out on line!
