I'm so old I Remember when:

I'd say get a Pixel phone and install GrapheneOS (degoogled Android) but I think that might be a bit difficult to install if you aren't a techie.
If you can afford to just get an UP Phone, much easier if you're not a tech person.

I'm.....not ....sure......BUT, it looks like we are going off the rails here. Didn't we start out by talking about old memories.
The point is we did not go off the rails, the rest of society did.

Various countries have tried to go cashless. Except in the most draconian cultures, it has always been a total flop. I would say that it has been a flop in China as well, but many disagree.

The people still have a say. Many "advances" have been rejected, firmly. They tried to force us to go cashless during the plandemic, and people rejected it.

We are pack animals. A friend says "look at this cool new thing" and we turn up our noses at it. But let the media tell us that everyone is doing it (which is usually false) we change our minds.

We are also creatures of convenience. Once socially accepted, we have it pounded into our heads that New Thing (tm) is more convenient. Usually has lots of drawbacks, but those are never mentioned.

We are also an extremely wealthy society, nearly globally, and even the poorest can scrape up the money for New Thing. We end up paying for the privilege of being enslaved.

We choose how we spend our money, our power, our attention. If the people en mass refuse it, it's not going to happen. Whatever "it" might be. Pixie sticks?
Scandinavia is almost cashless and I just got back from the UK which is heading that way fast.
