I'm so old I Remember when:

Does anyone remember these? Remember the next line, and what they were for?

One potato, two potato,
Three potato, four.
Five potato, six potato
(next line....)
I've not heard of this one but here's a very annoying video I found.

Speaking of counting and related words, did anyone else learn back in grade school that a couple means two, a few is three, and some refers to four or more?

Another one was someone (anyone could do it) would say, "1, 2, 3" and everyone would say, "Not it!"

The last one to say, "Not it!" (someone who wasn't paying attention) was it.

Another saying that pops up in my memory has to do with playing Hide and Seek.

Apples, peaches, pumpkin pie,
Who's not ready? Holler "I!"

Oh, cool! I'd never heard that version!

Ours was
Seven potato, or!

This was one of the ways we chose who was it. Everyone put out their two fists. The counter (Hi Suzanne! You were a great counter. RIP.) tapped fists on the numbers, and the one tapped on "or" was taken out. Start the count over. The counter counted with their fist and their second "fist" was their forehead if it was Suzanne, or a knee if it was anyone else.

The last "or" tap was it.

Yeah, it took awhile, but we had all afternoon.
