I'm so old I Remember when:

I remember sleeping outside under the stars in the summer time. We slept on cloth bags filled with hay, called pallet beds. It sounds very itchy to me now, but when I was a kid that was the best sleep ever. The breeze, the crickets, the coyotes howling just past the tree line. :love

I remember sleeping at Seaside campground on the beach under the stars and swimming in the Gulf of Mexico at night

Today the area where the campground was is Seaside Beach and Racquet Club in orange beach Alabama

I remember when the bags used for groceries were brown paper bags that would easily biodegrade and were made from a renewable resource. Fast growing pine trees.

I remember we lined the bottom of the large paper bag with newspaper and used that in our kitchen to collect all the garbage we wanted to throw away in the house and we had galvanized cans outside that the city would empty out with the garbage men hanging on the outside of the garbage truck

And anything that came from the earth or animals would go into a compost pile outside for my grandmother garden

I remember when you would get fruit, and homemade cookies and candies for Halloween.

And quarters dimes nickles and sometimes pennies

I remember some stranger’s would let you walk through their decorated “haunted house”

I have not celebrated Halloween since 1996

I remember going from house to house singing Christmas carols and some stranger’s would invite you inside to warm up with coffee or hot cocoa or tea and cookies or cake or pie

My brother & I tried sleeping out "under the stars" one night with my dad (former Marine)...until the mosquitos drove us inside.

My dad was a former marine and served in Korean War

And the mosquitoes are bad here on summer nights when I take my dog out

I just had visions of several crime scene dramas run through my head at once.
That was defiantly a different time.

My neighbor had one of those. Plastic bags hung up to make a maze in their garage, a brain made of spaghetti and a bowl full of grape eyeballs. It was fun.

We used the spaghetti (in veg oil for extra ick) for guts and a steamed head of cauliflower for the brain. The grapes were a 🤬 to peel but it absolutely makes all the difference. We also had a jello liver (decrease the water when making) and cleaned and dried chicken bones. I'm sure there were more body parts but it was more than half a century ago.
At ours, after going through the maze we all sat on folding chairs in a circle and there was a story as the 'body parts' were passed around.
I've seen others where the parts were inside boxes and you'd put your hand through a hole cut in the side as you went through the maze.
How was yours set up?
