Bullying has been around for years. It is nothing new. It is just the 'new thing' for people to complain about. I am not belittling it AT ALL.
But the things that people are complaining about have been going on FOR YEARS.
My son was bullied for 3 years (1st through 3rd grade). He is autistic (asperegers). The only reason I ever found out was that after three years my son finally pushed back. He got in trouble for pushing the bully. All the teachers in the school new the other boy was bullying my son BUT COULD NOT TELL ME!
Why?
Because he had an IAP and was coded. So they could not tell me he had issues and was bullying my son!
To make matters worse they were going to put the two boys in the SAME classroom, knowing about the issues!!!!
My son never went back to public school.
He is now 21 and that event was almost 15 years ago.
My older son was bullied on the bus about the same time by a neighbor's kid. The bullying and taunting went on and on for months on the school bus, even when I went out to pick up my son. My son took karate. One day on the bus the bully put my son in a choke hold. My son was able to disarm the bully and contain him, without violence using his karate. That was the end of it. He was awarded at karate for his efforts.
So it is nothing new. People are just finally accepting that it exists. Finally.
They are weak souls, they are cowards...They feel bad about themselves..
My 5 and 7 year old boys face them daily.. When I was a child I was the one that protected the weak that were picked on by bullies.
(No I never beat anyone up.)
The best defense against a bully is SELF CONFIDENCE... IMO this is lacking in children these days.. Be proud, confident stand tall stand for your ideals and your morals... Let no one push you around... If it comes to it and you have used every passive and intellectuality means to deal with a bully and they physically hurt you.... Flatten their nose... They will run crying and never bully again..
This is what my kids are taught..it works..
Self empowerment...... Only YOU are in control of your destiny... Do not be a sheep...

If I just dropped a kid off at a street corner, I would be fired. We have to go through a lot to get a kid kicked off the bus. There was only one that I tried to get kicked off. Wrote him up at least 10 times. He must have had an IEP because I never did get him off.
Yes, there is never a dull moment on the bus. Kids love to see what they can get away with.
If there was an IEP you would have known about it with that many write ups.
It's the parents and the kids fault. The parents for not putting morals into their kids, the kids for being cowardly idiots (to put it lightly). I realize that bullying is a part of things, but it's getting ridiculous. Gay kids can't have a life, large kids can't get by with a day without it, mentally challenged kids are picked on, physically ill kids are bullied. It's crazy.
I'm a senior in high school. I've been bullied all my life for my size - I'm pretty big - and yeah, it hurt. I thought it would stop when I got sick and was diagnosed with Crohns. Guess what? MORE people actually bullied me. I've had teachers do the SAME THING. Telling teachers never helps - they DO NOT CARE.
I've never had to do anything physical, and I've recently found out-smarting them in verbal battle makes them so embarrassed and ashamed they NEVER say anything to my face again. Get them out in the open, and make it loud enough so that other people can here me telling them off. If big words don't work, point out EVERY flaw they have, and tell them clearly to leave me alone. Loudly. It's pretty bad to stoop to their level, but if it makes them stop then so be it.
You can't blame peoples lack of morals to science - they are two completely different areas. However, morals (standing AWAY from religions) should be applied to science. Morals are something that have to be developed and taught by experience, usually. And from what I've experienced, sometimes you can't teach somebody morals even though you can science. Morals is how to live your life with honor and integrity. Science is the mechanics and data behind what you see with your own eyes.
The truth is that humans are animals. We have a complex brain, yes. We are considered a "higher" animal, sentient and free thinking, creative. But we are animals none the less.
If somebody takes the motto "survival of the fittest" literally as something to live by, then I'm not concerned that they are bullying me. They obviously don't have the brain power to know any better.
You are not descending to the bullies level by verbally challenging their behaviour ChickenWhisperer. It is quite unacceptable that this allowed to continue in any place, particularly a place of education. If staff can't or won't intervene, there is something very wrong with the institution! It is the fundemental right of the individual to go about their legitimate business without fear of verbal/physical attack. Not always achievable in the outside world I know, but surely in school/college it is!!
