I posted before about my girl with an impacted crop. I’ve gotten her moving some and she’s pooped, but it’s all very dark greenish and smells horrible. Not like a cecal poop or ammonia, like gasoline like? There is a chemical quality to it. Very strong. Anyone know what this smell is or had similar experience? She had some blueberries before I realized she was having crop issues. I’m wondering if that’s the reason for the color but I don’t know about this smell.

I don’t know what could cause that type of odor, but has there been any spills from farm machinery or a car/lawn mower? Has her crop been emptying in early morning? How does it feel—empty, full, firm, dough like or squishy? Is her breath sour or foul smelling? Do you have poultry grit available for your chickens? Have you been giving her any chilled coconut or mineral oil to her? Have you been massaging her crop?

Yes, I’ve been massaging her crop with coconut oil, tube feeding water, and even used stool softener yesterday. No spills that I know of. In the morning, her crop is firm until I massage it, it breaks up a bit and some of it feels almost clay like, squishy but not like fluid filled squishy. There is food in there I can feel moving around but doesn’t empty. It has emptied SOME in the last couple days, she started pooping occasionally, but it has yet to empty completely overnight. Did you look at the picture? the poop seems to be a strange shape to me, im curious about that. i found some lice on her as well as all of this. she’s been shaking her head and looks to be having difficulty preening/making contact with food. she is 6 months old and was vaxed for mareks

The poop shape looks like it is tubular sections, and I have seen similar shaped poops before. The green color looks like she is not eating much. Are you familiar with @azygous ’s article on crop problems? She is the best with crops.

Yes! This is what I have been following. I suppose I will just keep on keeping on so long has she isn’t getting worse. She appears to be stagnant at the moment but that’s better than declining. She’s my favorite chicken I’m just so worried!

What are you feeding her now? She needs some nutrition. I would give her some very watery egg, just a little, and offer a spoonful of chicken feed made mushy with a lot of water.

I gave her some greek yogurt and scrambled eggs with garlic, oregano, and cinnamon in them. She was very happy to eat it which I took as a good sign. Since I had gotten the crop mostly empty, I’m hoping the crop is cleared of her dinner in the morning. Fingers crossed. I will try mushy chicken feed tomorrow if we are still going well!

Okay her crop is still full this morning. I just did another massage with coconut oil and gave her another stool softener. I work from home today but I have to go into work the next three days and Im so worried about her 😩 @Wyorp Rock Ive heard of a molasses flush? would that be helpful? This has been going on since Friday, maybe Thursday if I caught it late
