Hello, first time posting. I am a new chicken owner as of last May. My girls have been great, until Sunday I let them out like I always do to a protected area outside their run and within a few minutes, my leghorn ran back in the run I was poop scooping in and had blood on her head and wings! I have no idea how this happened, she’s gone out there daily for the last 4 or five months. I’m guessing she got it caught on something and yanked it out, tearing it. We used liquid aluminum bandage in a pinch to stop the bleeding. Do I need to do an egg withdrawal now? TIA 🙏🏻

Also, with recommendations from seasoned owners, we opted to remove the part of the comb that was flapping around, hitting her eye and because it was turning black. It bled much more than the first injury, but I finally got it to stop. Never doing that again. I just hope she’ll be okay and that her eggs are safe to eat. Even if I have to toss them from now on, I just want her to be pain free and living her best life with her sisters in their yard.

There is no egg withdrawal with the aluminum wound dressing. Glad that your hen’s comb injury is better. In some cases when a comb is partially torn off, it can help to trim off the flapping part, but I would also try just conservative treatment at first. In many times the blood can clot and the comb may begin to heal. Every case is different.

Thank you. We got out nu skin in desperation and tried that, so now I’m not sure about egg withdrawal after liquid super glue. 😅
